Trend Micro Protects Against First Palm-OS Trojan: "Palm_Liberty.A" 
Trend Micro offers free detection for proof-of-concept Trojan

Cupertino, CA - August 28, 2000 - Trend Micro Inc. (Nasdaq:TMIC), announces the immediate availability of protection for the recently discovered Palm_Liberty.A Trojan. Palm_Liberty.A is a "proof of concept" trojan that targets the Palm Operating System. Although this trojan has been found on a website and was also reported from several Internet Relay Chat (IRC) channels, Trend Micro has received no reports of infection at this time. Trend Micro considers this trojan to be a very low risk. In order to be affected, the handheld device users must download and install the trojan file on their PDA. It is not clear at this time if the Palm_Liberty.A trojan is targeting specific versions of the Palm OS. Because of this Trend Micro advises all Palm Pilot and Handspring users to exercise extreme caution when downloading programs over the Internet.

Cupertino, CA - June 19, 2000 - Trend Micro Inc. (Nasdaq:TMIC), announces the immediate availability of protection for the VBS_Stages.A (a.k.a. IRC_STAGES.A and SHS_STAGES.A) virus, a fast-spreading Trojan worm that affects Windows machines and may arrive via email with a scrap (Shell Scrap Object or SHS) file attachment named LIFE_STAGES.TXT.SHS.

Trend Micro is offering immediate protection with updated pattern file # 715, and the HouseCall free online virus scanner.

Cupertino, CA - May 18, 2000 - Trend Micro Inc. (Japan OTC: 4704; NASDAQ: TMIC), a leading provider of Internet content security, has released a preliminary solution for VBS.NewLove. A, a newly-discovered Visual Basic Script worm with a very damaging payload. This NewLove virus infects Windows 95/98/NT/2000, and tries to spam itself to all users in the Microsoft Outlook address book. However, unlike the recent LoveLetter virus, NewLove.A has the ability to alter the subject header on subsequent email iterations, and change the name of attached files, making it more challenging to detect. It is also much more destructive, since it goes through all directories and replaces all existing files with files that are zero bytes in length.
