Antivirus earns On-Demand/On-Access Antivirus Product Certification
for 100% detection of 'in the wild' viruses
                    Cupertino, CA - July 17, 2000
                    - Trend Micro Inc. (Nasdaq: TMIC), a leader in enterprise
and personal antivirus and content security for the Internet
age, today announced that its consumer desktop antivirus
software, PC-cillinr 2000, has been granted ICSA
Certification by the Anti-Virus Product Developers
Consortium. Antivirus product certification testing was
recently revised to include products that protect the
Windows 2000 operating system. To achieve ICSA Anti-Virus
Certification, products are tested for their ability to
detect 100% of the "in the wild" viruses as they
enter the system (On-Access) and also during periodic file
                    and directory scans (On-Demand).
                    PC-cillin 2000 provides a
reliable and easily managed antivirus solution for Windows
2000. Users of Outlook Express 4.0, Eudora Pro 4.0 or any
other POP3 mail client can take advantage of the real-time
email virus-scanning feature; viruses can be detected and
cleaned from incoming messages before they have a chance to
infect the desktop. Users of newer versions of Outlook can
also scan for viruses in emails stored in personal folders.
PC-cillin 2000 is still the only desktop antivirus software
solution that bears the "Certified for Microsoft
Windows" logo, issued by VeriTest independent lab
                    services.
                    ICSA sets standards for
commercial security products and provides independent and
objective cross-industry product certification programs. The
ICSA Labs Product Certification Program provides objective
assurance to the computer user community that those products
that receive certification provide and maintain the highest
standard of virus detection and reduces security threats
associated with Internet use. The Anti-Virus Product
Developers Consortium (AVPD), which has reviewed PC-cillin
2000, is a forum for the exchange of information among
leading antivirus product developers, and supports an
industry-wide standard for the testing and certification of
                    antivirus products.
                    "Recent virus outbreaks,
such as Loveletter and LifeStages, spread quickly among
Internet mail users and have made users realize the need for
                    industrial-strength virus products, like PC-cillin
2000," said Oscar Chang, senior vice president of
product development at Trend Micro. "Third party
certification, like ICSA's, assures our users that PC-cillin
catches these and all other in-the-wild viruses."
                    ICSA's virus libraries and
test suites are updated at least monthly and products are
randomly tested every 60 days to assure they are current.
Products that fail spot checks from the previous month's
library must correct the problem and ship the solution or
lose their certification status. The complete criteria for
certifications can be found at http://www.icsa.net/html/communities/antivirus/certification/.
